I had to have my brand new DVR replaced because it was a lemon. When I went to the Verizon store I was given a replacement. I was sent on my way without an activation code. My order was taking a long time to be processed. The clerk assured me that I could GET the activation code for the new set  by calling 888 897 7499 from home. I questioned that but she assured me that would work. Of course, that number is automated and  only ACCEPTS activation codes. I called the store to complain - it was closed. I called Verizon tech support - after holding for 15 minutes I gave up.

I had the identical same problem a few weeks ago. Store clerk could not activate somehow. Said to call activation line. Line only accepts activation codes. Called local Verizon 24 hr service line and told them what happened, took 4 hours to straighten it out, but they did it.

Be aware of a pitfall that I encountered: The store clerk could not activate it because he had scanned the wrong bar code serial number label on the bottom of the case. When I called the service line, they asked me for the bar code serial number off the receipt/ticket I got at the store (with the wrong number, which at that time I did not know.......). Only after getting suspicious about all the labels on the unit, I asked what label to read and what the serial number should look like. Once we got the right serial number, it still took an hour to finally activate it.
