OK ... understand the HD signals are "digital".   You don't get "grainy" issues on digital signals -- you either get the channel, you get pixelization (square blocks and signal / picture segment dropouts), or nothing at all.  Anything which is "grainy" is either a problem with the source, or a problem with the TV.  

If the connection is analog between the STB and TV (i.e., not an HDMI cable), then I would stsrt your quest for a solution there since that would be the obviousl weak link in the chain.  HDMI is digital, so likewise you either get signal or you don't.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I was not more technical in reporting my problem as grainy vs pixelization but that is how most folks would describe it  

If you read my post with a little more care you would see that I am using HDMI which has been swapped out
