Programming remote control issue with DCT700

I am trying to program a remote control to work with a Samsung HDTV. There is a DCT700 (digital adapter box) with this TV. The remote turns the TV on and off but when you try the volume you get the message "your remote control is attempting to control the volume on the digital adapter. Please reprogram your remote to control the volume on your tv instead". I have tried different codes but get same results. I disconnected the dig.adapter and no change. Any solutions???
