QAM Clear Channels Changed? (Los Angeles / Riverside, CA)

I have the FiOS Local TV service along with 25/25 FiOS Broadband. I don't use Set-Top-Boxes with the service. The TVs have built in QAM Clear tuners. I've had the service about 2 years and it has been fine.

Today I noticed something odd. My local television channels CBS2, NBC4, ABC7, KCAL9, FOX11, etc were no longer in their respective locations on the channel line up. Tuning into channel "5" would attempt to redirect to 5-284 and I would receive a scrambled or low signal message. Verified across multiple TV sets in the house.

Verizon could not help me as I do not have STBs, they just reset the ONT. However I found the channels higher up on the line up.... a bit odd but most are still there.  (Well with the exception of FOX 11 HD, FOX 11 SD is still there).  Most of the local channels seem to be in the 63.x - 78.x range.  There are multiple versions of the same channel (SD & HD).

Is there a reason this has occured?  As of last night if I wanted to watch Fox 11 , or CBS2 I would just go to Channel 11 or 2.  Now I have to dig around a lot to find them.

My local area is Los Angeles / Riverside, CA

I can confirm there are others having the same issue. I hope this can get escalated ASAP. I suspect its a bad PSIP at fault.

Note: This issue should be affecting only people who have have QAM tuners TV's connected straight to coax feed, but some CABLECARDS may be affected.

Yes, my Clear Channel 'went away' yesterday too.  However, my digital TV found them OK, but my Windows Media Center can't get the new feed from Pomona.

They recently changed the FiOS guide and channels.  This is no equipment failure.  I talk to a tech in the CO and they said they don't notify any external providers of changes.  So we are out of luck until Microsoft gets their Media Center feed fixed.

I have a Hauppengauge 2250 with two tuners that had been working great.  I could record two channels with the dual tuners.  Media Center kept perfect track of each of the series I was recording and only recorded the new episodes.

Now Media Center can't even find any channels whatsoever.

Hopefully, it will get resolved in the next few days.

I too am having this issue with my Hauppauge 1600. I flipped over to 2.1 and there was noting. I re-ran the TV setup, and the scan brought up zero channels on the 1600. I thought something was wrong with it.

Luckily, I have a Ceton card, so I can still watch those channels, but I have one less tuner to record. At night, I may have 3 or 4 recordings, and my wife will be watching a Law and Order on ch. 13, so it is nice to have that 5th tuner. 🙂

Just wanted to add my two cents here-

Same issue on FIOS in the south bay (Torrance). Looks like they shifted the clear QAM channels and changed the PSIP- the TV I have that just tunes clear QAM is fine, but I've lost all channels in Windows 7 Media Center. Verzion support has been unhelpful so far, but I'm trying to get ahold of someone in engineering to see what's changed.

EDIT:

Got the same answer as the poster above. I guess we'll have to wait...

Just a thought. Have any of you guys tried running WINTV or Arcsoft TMI? Those might setup different from WMC.

For those trying to remap their TV's, this might help: I had to manually (somewhat) set up mine because it was too old I guess to scan and map them properly here. I used the tech mode of my DVR to view the frequency of the local channels. This was a bit tricky because it shows 2 frequencies, one for each tuner. So I had to fix one channel by recording it and change the other channel and notice which one changes value. Once I got the frequencies listed, I manually tuned the TV to that numbered channel (which I got from a downloaded cross ref chart for QAM channel frequencies) and waited several seconds until the TV found the channel on a sub. A lot of hassel but it worked.

Thanks for the info Gary-

I think the crux of the issue for most of us is that Verizon hasn't made the new channel listings available to 3rd parties like zap2it yet, thus preventing Windows Media Center from being able to map the QAM channels it finds to channel listing data.

I've gone through the channels manually after scanning, and although the frequency has changed on all of them and some of the PSIP data seems incorrect (although it seems fine for the major LA stations like KTLA, KKFX, etc) media center users are SOL until Verizon makes the updated listing data available to zap2it and other 3rd parties.

I wonder if this change was part of the 1.9 rollout- my 2 motorola boxes haven't gotten it yet, but it seems like it could definitely be related.

Seriously though, try using Hauppauge WinTV, at least temporarily. I don't use it much, but if I remember it right, WinTv doesn't even try to remap the channels, just randomly assigns a number. It does, I think, give you the call letters and frequency of the station so you can identify the station.

Looks like indeed the PSIP were changed for 18 local channels in California. We will just have to rescan our QAM devices and wait for some1 to post the new QAM/Clear channel lineup. Please hurry! This is annoying.

Side note: This is possibly possibly caused by a change within system in respect to Verizon's highly anticipated IMG 1.9 rollout and/or CISCO boxes for California.
