QIP2500-3 - Unit goes on by it's self

this has happened several times, twice last night. the unit goes on by itself and because I have speakers hooked up directly to the STB, it wakes us up. It's very strange because the unit still shows the time and not the channel like it normally would when it's on. when this has happened in the past, I just use the remote and turn it off but last night it would not respond and I had to unplug it.

any suggestions?

Most likely this is due to a reset or update from Verizon (my boxes appear to have cycled last night).  I assume you mean you have an external amp and speakers (or PC style powered speakers) as the STB does not have the ability to directly drive the speakers.  The probable solution is to turn off the power to the amp / speakers when you retire.

FIOS does updates to their boxes on a regular basis and this always occurs in the middle of the night. It can be annoying if you hear your speakers but short of disconnecting them I cannot think of any other solution.
