QIP7232P2 HD DVR & ESATA Support

Do the new Verizon QIP7232P2 HD DVR support eSATA devices such as the Western Digital My Book AV DVR SATA Expander?  If so, is there online instructions on how to set up the eSATA device with the DVR?  And if not, does Verizon have near future intentions of providing support for eSATA devices for DVR backup and additional storage?

MBEE, this is from the IMG 1.9 release notes that posted by FiOS TV's Joe Ambeault that explain the enhancements to the DVR:

... The top request from FiOS TV viewers, which is the ability to expand storage using external drives.  This is supported on the Cisco DVR’s as well as Motorola 7000 series DVR’s. This feature is not supported by the Motorola 6416 and 2708.

While we have done nothing to block plugging in any eSATA drive to the DVR’s, if you use a drive that has not been qualified by Verizon then we will not be able to support any potential problems. Please also be aware that we found several units that did not work properly due to the extreme sustained I/O performance required to support this application.

We plan to continually increase the number of qualified units, but at launch we will support Western Digital My Book AV DVR Expander 500GB and 1TB.  A 2TB drive is currently in qualification as well as drives from other manufacturers. As those are qualified we will publish them on www.verizon.com.

To read all of the release notes go here: Joe Ambeault posted release notes that may just answer quite a few of your questions. (And here's a link to the press release as well.)

You will have to wait until you get the 1.9 release.  Then go the Menu / DVR / Enable More Storage and follow the directions.

I was in the 1.9 beta test and have had the WD My Book AV DVR 1TB for about 4 mouths now, it works flawlessly and stores a lot of HD. Couple that with the new 7232 P2 HD DVR which has a 500 GB drive, and that's 1.5TB of storage Great!

how do you know if you have the 1.9 update?

I really want to expand the storage of my DVR and would like to purchase a eSATA drive, but I don't know if it will work yet b/c I heard that you have to have the 1.9 update to be able to connect a eSATA drive

Go to MENU => SETTINGS => SYSTEM INFORMATION.  It will list the version.  Odds are you don't have it since only the beta testers and 2 small areas (Buffalo, Pittsburgh and anyone with Cisco STB).

Pittsburgh does not have 1.9 yet. 1.9 has been rolled out to Buffalo, Syracuse and Harrisburg so far.
