Hi, we have noticed for quite a while now that every now and then there are letters/characters/words that show up on the TV screen when watching TV. We notice it when using the TV that is connected to our DVR, haven't noticed it on other TV's in the house using the same FIOS service. Has anyone experienced this?
Sounds like the closed captions are "leaking" in. Try setting them to on and see if the character location, size, position, and color match what you are seeing. Note that either the TV or DVR (or any other device connected to the TV) can supply the closed captions, so try enabling them on each device one at a time. If you can narrow it down to the DVR, I would request a new one.
Closed captions on the DVR can be enabled by pressing the * button (under the 7) until it displays CC1. To turn it off, press the * until the display shows OFF. At least that's what it is on my Philips remote.
You will have to check the TV manual for it's CC procedure.
