Remote Control, Pressing every button 50 times

Hello,

Verizon came a few weeks ago to set up my FIOS TV.  The remote is programmed, and the controls for the TV work fine (volume, power, etc).

But when I try to bring up the guide, change channels, enter in numbers, it rarely works.  I'll have to literally click the guide button about 50 times for it to pop up.  Once the guide finally comes up, it takes another 50 times hitting the Channel Down button to go down one page.

Help please!

Alex

Possibilities

Bad Batteries

IR interference between TV screen and remote.  Particularly common with some LCD and Plasma Tv's

Sorry I forgot to mention, I've replaced the batteries many times.  I even changed the Verizon FIOS Box, and gotten the same issue, so it must have something to do with the HDMI cord or the TV itself.

Have you replaced the remote control? If you have In Home Agent you can order a free replacement.

Yes I've had 3 different remote controls, all having the same problem.

Re: Remote Control, Pressing every button 50 times

I would recommend a quick experiment to determine if it is IR interference, a topic covered a lot in these forums - search IR interference. If your STB is near the TV, IR interference can disrupt the remote signals, especially after first activating the TV when electricity flow is higher to get things up to speed or brightness. Take a big piece of cardboard and cover the STB, creating a hood or visor that extends over the front edge a few inches and try the remote. If the cardboard shields the STB, the remote should work better. If it turns out that IR is the culprit, a permanent solution needs to be nonflammable, of course, but at least you have identified the problem. Good luck.

Re: Remote Control, Pressing every button 50 times

I've struggled for a month with slow remote response (ir interference) on my DVR (Cisco CHS 435HDC).  Many calls to Tech Help and a  Verizon tech even came to house.  He put the box on an extended cable and showed it worked when well behind my plasma tv.   He would not provide me an  IR extended but I had a 3 ft one from my previous Comcast Motorola box that helped a bit, but still had problems.

Finally resorted to trying fixes i read about on the web.  Easiest one worked the best.  --  taped 3 layers of masking tape .(~.75 in x ~1.5 in) over the IR sensor .    Darkened it with a magic marker so it wouldn't show so much.

Works great....I can even rapid scroll through the Guide pages.

Why don't the Verizon technical line or technicians provide this easy fix!
