STB model 6416 will not allow audio receiver to 'pass through' for surround sound

I purchased a Samsung smart tv model 7100 series. Have a Marantz receiver that does not have HDMI. Split the audio with a audio cable to the tv. The old 6416 DVR has a 'hidden menu' you reach by depressing the power/menu buttons as quickly as possible (difficult to bring up menu). When finally able to get into menu there is a setting called 'additional HDMI settings'. You can set this to 'passthrough'.

Then on the tv, you can change the 'sound' setting from 'PCM' to 'Dolby Surround'. You cannot scroll down to this option unless the STB 6416 has been set to 'passthrough'  first.

Works fine. Problem is if yoy turn off STB or go to other medis such as DVD and return, the STB 6416 has reverted bact to original settins and ill only 'PCM' on TV, whatever that is. So only two front surround speakers work.

With as many of these Samsung model 7100's as they have sold this must be a common problem with Verizon.

What is your model set top box? Is it a combination set top box/dvr?

I should have stated that. I have the 7216 and 7232.

Since your issue is on an older box you might want to request/swap it out with a newer model.

Verizon replaced my stb with the 7216 in January. Worked fine for my Samsung smart tv speakers AND/OR my surround sound (Maramtx receiver)until a few days ago. Now it is dropping the sound with either the tv speakers or the surround sound. I can unplug the 7216 stb and power it back up and sound returns but drops again after a few minutes.

Would the 'latest' stb box help. Surely there are other Samsung smart tv's running FIOS. I am thinking of going to Direct TV. The installer who set up my tv says he has sold and installed many of these tv's but uses and recommends Direct TV.
