Set SD Override To Off Everyday

On our 7232 I have to go into the settings everyday and set the SD Override to Off, and it only stays for that day.  Is there any way to get the setting to stick?  It sticks on the 3 STBs that aren't DVRs.

How are you connected from the DVR to the TV?

When I had a 6416 I had the component connected directly to the TV, and I had the HDMI connected to my Yamaha RX-V3800 receiver. Whenever I would turn on my receiver, my 6416 would lose it's SD Overide setting. The fix for me was to turn off "MONITOR CHECK" in the Advanced Setup Menu of the receiver.

If you are connecte to an HDMI receiver, check to see if you have this sort of option.

that isn't normal behavior, you're other boxes are behaving properly, so maybe your box just needs an auto correct.

you can do that online at www.verizon.com/repair and click on Quick Fix for Set Top Boxes, or you can do it in the menu pretty quickly too.

click on menu > customer support > in home agent > set top box auto correct.

after you do that, then go back and make sure it's set to off, and then try it out.

Also if you have a home theatre, they may not be playing nice with one another, so let me know if you have a home theatre set up on that tv with hdmi

Just checking in, I have the HDMI cable run to my Yamaha RX-V861 and HDMI out to my Sony flatscreen.  I'll try out the auto check, right now I am watching the Flyers and Rangers.

OK I found my user manual and set the monitor check to skip.  It only had 2 choices, yes and skip.  I guess I'll find out tomorrow if it holds, but I'll mark it as solved.

Thanks for all the good information,

Guess I jumped the gun because neither solutions worked I had to set the override again today.  It is the first chance i got to check the unit since changing the settings offered here.

How often do you have receiver without using the TV?I think it what was causing my STB to change it to 480i.

Also, what is your power on sequence? You may want to change it to:

1) TV (wait until it is all the way on)

2) AVR

3) STB

(obviously reverse for power down)

Then check to see if it sticks. If it does stick, (with everything powered down) try listening to the receiver only and check again.

When the HDMI handshake is occuring, and the STB is interpreting the handshake as "there in nothing in the chain that can handle 720p/1080i", and setting the output to 480i.

If the SD Override setting doesn't stick, you may be out of luck. The only 3 workarounds would be to 1) use component and remove the HDMI connection from the STB to the receiver or 2) Go HDMI directly from the STB to the TV, and if the TV has digital audio out, connect that to your AVR (since nothing broadcasts in dts-MA or Dolby TrueHD there shouldn't be a loss in audio quality and Toslink can handle Dolby Digital 5.1- just not Dolby Digital Plus), or 3) Never watch a SD channel.

It isn't just not watching an SD channel, it is any time I hit the Menu or On Demand button everything goes squirrelly as the box changes output.  If I override the SD then it just switches screens without the huge interruption.
