The Movie Channel audio not synced

Watching "As Good As It Gets" (or trying to) on The Movie Channel HD (channel 887 on FIOS), and the audio is not in sync with the picture. It's like watching an old king fu movie, only there's no overdubs involved.

This is not the first time I've noticed the audio feed on TMC or Showtime being out of sync. What's going on?

I haven't heard of others reporting this problem. What are your audio settings set to in the box? Also are you using a surround sound system or is the sound coming out of your TV speakers?

This is a fairly common complaint of the Digital Age, as audio is processed faster than video. Newer TV sets of the last several years have "Synch Circuits" built in to delay the audio sufficiently for unaffected viewing. But sometimes ( I suspect but don't know technically) the buffers may get overloaded and it doesn't work well. If you are using an outboard receiver as the sound source, receivers usually have channel delay programming you can adjust to make the audio lag until it matches the video. If you are using the TV for sound, sometimes hitting pause on a DVR for a few seconds will let things catch up, or change channels and go back. The pause technique has worked for me on the rare instances I have seen it.

My LG HDTV is notorious for out of sync audio on some but not all, or even most, channels when hooked up via HDMI.  The workaround is to use component cables instead of HDMI.

I just hooked up an LG TV and experiencing the same problem mainly on local live broadcasting stations. LG techs are pointing their fingers at verizon because it is not on all channels and when playing a DVD it is in sync. I'm using a yamaha receiver with HDMI cables. Might go ahead and try the component cables. I had a samsung hooked up in the same spot and did not have all these problems.

Also check to see if the firmware for all involved devices is up to date. Manufacturers are constantly (reputedly) trying to get their respective devices to work well with each other. You might also try a HDMI connect to the TV directly, and then separate audio (such as optical) to the Yamaha. My own rig has this arrangement with no problems. Yamahas do have a bit of a history - you might check www.avsforum.com for your particular receiver to see if other owners had similar issues.
