Verizon Media Manager will not start automatically with Windows, even though it is set to do so.

Verizon Media Manager will not start automatically with Windows, even though it is set to do so.  This started with the latest update.  I see that the desktop icon for Media Manager now has a security shield on it, and it requires UAC confirmation when you start it, which I don't remember the old version doing.

One thing I noticed, msconfig.exe shows that "C:\Program Files\Verizon\McciTrayApp.exe" is set to start at Windows startup, but the desktop icon used to start Media Manager manually has a target of ""C:\Program Files\Verizon\Verizon Media Manager\Release\Verizon Media Manager.exe" Verizon Media Manager".

I don't remember what the previous version was, but this one is 9.4.86.  It asked me if I wanted to update it a few days ago, and I said yes.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.

I tried disabling all other startup programs, but that made no difference.

I finally got it to work by using Task Scheduler, and setting it to start at logon, with highest privileges, rather than at startup.  I also had to remove quotation marks from the start in argument for the task.  I still don't understand why Media Manager won't create a startup entry of its own, either in the registry or the startup folder.

Try setting the startup option to off and then to on again. It looks to be pointing to a wrong location.

Attached is a partial screen shot of my msconfig setting.

I tried turning the option off and on again, and that made no difference.  There was no change to the Startup entry.  Then, I uninstalled Media Manager, cleaned out a bunch of unused entries from the Startup keys in the registry, and re-installed MM.  It still won't start automatically with windows, and it didn't even create a Startup entry!

I noticed from the picture of your Startup menu that you have a 64bit version of Windows; I thought MM would only run on a 32bit version?

Have you tried changing the media manager executable to "run as administrator?"  Find the file, right click on the file, select properties, then select the compatibility tab, and then check "run as administrator" under the privilege area.

It is set to run as administrator, I think it did that itself when it was installed.

I have also tried putting a shortcut into the Startup folder, and using Task Scheduler to start it after booting, and that doesn't work, either.

First, I think MM will run on either a 32 bit or 64 bit OS, but it will probably only run in 32 bit mode.

This sounds like there may be a startup conflict. Try removing some startup items one at a time and see if it works, if MM is one of the few left. Windows tries to startup everything at once and sometimes things time-out if the PC gets too busy.
