Watch AVI Movies from USB Stick on FIOS?

Is it possible to plug my USB with avi/mp3/mp4 etc. to my FIOS box so that I can watch movies and listen to music on my TV system?  Please provide a step-by-step.

If not USB, how can I watch these AVI's on my home theatre?  Thanks.

At this time the USB port has not been enabled yet.  With that said we have a  program called Media Manager.

Media Manager lets you create slideshows, organize playlists and access Internet videos using your computer. Then stream your slideshows, music, videos, and Internet videos to your TV directly through the DVR.

As indicated above, that is not possible.  The Verizon STB/DVRs only support a very limited number of formats.  They do not directly support AVI or DIVX.

You can install the Verizon Media Manager software on your computer, which will transcode (i.e. convert the videos to a compatible format) and stream the videos to the DVR over your home network.   There is some quality loss with this on-the-fly conversion.

If you want the ability to view videos on a USB memory stick, then you should take a look at the Western Digital WD TV ($80-$110).  This consumer electronics product allows you to connect a USB drive or thumb drive and play the videos.  It does not have anything to do with FiOS.

Have a look!! Any questions feel free to ask.

I would not go so far as to call Media Manager a "great program"!  It has MAJOR problems, and I understand your blog and other advertising fora have to tout this feature, but here in the user fora, please keep the hyperbole to a believable pitch.

To be frank, if you roll this out at a party to impress your friends, you'll be a laughingstock when it stutters and locks up on half of your videos, and embarrassed at the poor quality of the videos that you actually manage to stream, rather than the stud your post suggests.

The Media Manager program is a nice idea for which I have hope, but it has been rolled out before it's ready for prime-time and needs a LOT of work.
