sudden tv service interruption

Last night July 9 around 10pm our Verizon fios tv service had a sudden interruption. Weather was calm and there were no other power issues in the house. Two tv's went blank for about 10 seconds. One TV picture came back as if it rebooted. But our Panasonic TH-46PZ850U plasma to not restore. TV will not power up. Can’t get menu or any other video inputs like apple tv. Small red light on front just blinks. I tried plugging and unplugging with no effect. Anyone have sudden interruption to Verizon TV service last night? Could this have damaged the Panasonic TV?

It sounds as if you think the outage and subsequent problems with your Panasonic TV were caused by FiOS.  The outage and subsequent problem with the TV were more likely caused by a power surge.  Such a surge will interrupt FiOS service, and can cause an STB to reboot.  It sounds like your TV did not survive the surge, which (again) would not be caused by FiOS.  Try unplugging the TV and then plugging it back in.  Modern TVs are more special purpose computers than not, and removing power fully can sometimes reset them properly.

Thanks for reply and explanation. I unplugged it waited about an hour and the TV restarted. The reason I questioned whether the Verizon signal caused the problem was because the event only seemed to affect the two TV's that were on and there was no power interruption on any other appliances or computers. But I guess there could have been a power surge and only the TV's were affected. This is not the first time this happened so I guess it will not be the last. I use surge protectors  for the TV"s, Any other suggestions or specifics on what type of surge protector I should use to best prevent future damage? thanks again

Some equipment can handle a power surge better than others.  It depends on how well the power supply is built, the quality of the components in it, how complex the item is, how good the ground is on the line, and how the spike propagates over the various circuits in you house.  It's all magic.

I had the same interruption last night.  Not sure as we were only watching the DVR box, but that one did reset and reboot around that time.

There is a lot of information to research regarding surge protectors and power conditioners. Some like them and some do not, and not all surge protectors serve as power conditioners. Here is a short lesson I found on the subject:

You can research the subject to see what people eventually settle on as there are quite a few competing choices from a number of manufacturers. There are even different technologies on how the safety is achieved. Some even have modest batteries to enable controlled shutdown/cooldown for a short time period. For my personal rig, I use a Richard Gray Power Company item for music, and an APC H15 for my modest home theater setup. I am well satisfied, but you will find supporters of other manufacturers as well. Even though modern TVs have some built-in surge protection to ground, I believe that more is better, and redundancy is better still.
