Adding Internet to existing FiOS TV

I am going to be adding FiOS internet to my existing FiOS TV package and was wondering if anyone knows if it is required to have someone come out to do the install for this?  I currently have the box outside, the battery backup inside and a router in my living room - I was sorta assuming that it would just activate the service on the existing equipment, but when I attempt to put the order through online, it tells me to pick an install date.  Anyone know about this?

I cannot think of a good reason why you need someone to come out and install. If you have FiOS TV, you already have the router, and VOD, fimrware updates and Channel Guide are already delivered via Internet. I think all they have to do is inside the Central Office, and that is simply enabling broader Internet access, and setting the speed for your connection. So my guess is you pick and install date so that the work order for the Central Office stuff gets generated.

Once that is done, you should be able to connect up ethernet drop cables to the ports on the router (set up your wireless if you want), and you are good to go.

Thanks - I agree, it seems that everything is already there, I'm not sure what they would need to do.  I spoke with someone via the 'Online Chat' and the implied that I would have to have it physically installed by Verizon.  I think I will call them up and see what I can find out, since I really don't want to give up a whole day to wait for them.

I suspect the "install date" is so they can come out and hook up the cable from the router to the PC (yeah, we all know how to do that, but it's amazing how many people can't figure that out) and confirming that it works.   I agree there should be no reason they need to come out because all the parts you need are already in place -- it should just be a central office / remote route configuration change at most that's required along with just hooking up your PC although maybe they have to change something inside the ONT or something -- although that would seem to be a bad design if it required a visit for what should be a minor configuration profile change..

Maybe you should make the request by calling in instead of online so that you can ask the person if they can just activate it and not bother sending out a technician.
