Fios Router (Coax Connected) and pfSense box, how to do this?

Hello, I have a Actiontec M1424WR Rev. 1 and a HP Proliant DL380 G5 (Running pfSense) and would like to use the HP Proliant as the "router" yet still be able to use the Actiontec router for wireless operations. I would perfer not to have to run a ethernet line from the ONT to the pfSense server its self. Thanks!

It's possible, yes. If you plan to make the pfSense box your primary router and Firewall, your best bet is to run Ethernet from the ONT to the pfSense box, and then put everything behind your box.

Welcome to the forums.

Here's an FAQ that details many ways to configure a home network with and without Verizon equipment.

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077

Note that if your ONT is configured for MoCA WAN, only Verizon routers can connect to it.  There is no generally available consumer equipment that is setup for the MoCA WAN link.  If you want your pfSense box to be the first router in the system, you'll need to use Ethernet.  Otherwise, you'll need a Verizon router connected to the coax.  See the above link for many different ways to configure it.

Enjoy.

So would it be possible to use pfSense as the firewall and use the Verizon router for the wireless networking without having to switch from coax to ethernet?

Nope.  Pretty much the only equipment that can connect to the MoCA WAN link on the ONT are the Verizon routers.  Either put your box behind a Verizon router or switch the ONT to Ethernet.

Note you can bridge the Verizon router, if you want.  Consult the FAQ I posted.

Good Luck.
