MI424WR router Login Issues

I just received a new actiontec router (the other one fried over the weekend) and much to my surprise it had a new bios with WPA2 included.  That was a needed change and it allowed me to remove my Linksys wireless router from my setup.  However, this new router is very difficult to log on to.  Most times when I try, I get the following message:

"No more than 10 sessions at a time are allowed. Please wait until open sessions expire."

Now I have 11 devices (between laptops, desktops, printers and STBs) on my system so I always have at least 10 sessions going on.  (Note; the router was originally set to 5 sessions but I changed that to 10).  If I keep trying to log on I will eventually get a session but this is a real pain - does anyone know how to keep this from happening so I can log in on my first try?

Thanks in advance.

The default username for the Verizon FiOS ActionTec MI424WR broadband router is "admin" and the default password is "password". In many cases this might not work for you as the the technicians that install them often change them from the defaults. You may also want to chech and see if the default password of "password1" works for your installation as it is a common setting.

I already changed my password as soon as I installed the router and configured it for my network - this is not the problem - 10 sessions is.  Note: I did not have this problem with my previous Actiontec router.

That limit refers to the maximum number of concurrent users of the router's administrative interface.  It has nothing to do with the number of devices you can have on your network.

Now as to why you getting that message:

  • Are you accessing the routers admin interface from different computers?
  • Are you causing your PC to get a different IP address each time?
  • When you are through accessing the router's admin interface, do you logout?
  • Did you increase the Session Lifetime value from the default value of 600 seconds (10 minutes)?  i.e..  if an admin session is idle for 10 minutes, the router will drop that admin session.  If you increased that value, it would explain why the router is holding those sessions for longer and the difficultly getting a new session.

I thought that sessions was admin sessions but since i kept getting the error message i thought it might apply to all devices since there was no way that I had 10 admin sessions going on.  Answers to your questions embedded below.

Now as to why you getting that message:

  • Are you accessing the routers admin interface from different computers - no - only from 1 ?
  • Are you causing your PC to get a different IP address each time - system is set to dhcp so whenever I log off of the computer and log back on it gets a new IP, no more than once a day on average.
  • When you are through accessing the router's admin interface, do you logout? Not consistently, but I do now.
- No logout time remains at 600

This is very frustrating - as you can see by my answers above there is no logical explanation for this problem i must have received a router with defective software loaded on it.

Has there been a resolution to this issue? I get the same error even though I am the only one logged into the router as admin fro one station. An update from the readers will be helpful.
