I see Google announced they are offering a free DNS service available at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 per their site at:
http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/
Anyone else use this yet? Any reply on performance would be appreciated. I changed one PC in my home to use the new DNS service and will report back after tomorrow.

It would be nice to see some traceroutes with the old dns and then some traceroutes or pings with the new dns. for comparison.

Running traceroute or ping tests doesn't prove anything. Once it does the DNS lookup the DNS server is out of the picture.

I would believe he is actually suggesting running tracert and/or ping to the old and new dns servers to see if there is a difference in access time.

Use that walk through and then post the results.
that will tell us if it's better.

OR the OP (person who started this thread) could go to http://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm and download it.
#1 Compatible with all versions of Windows from Windows 95 through Windows 7 (while to the best of my knowledge NSLOOKUP can only run on certain versions of Windows).
#2 Compatible with Wine (Windows emulation) running on Linux and Macintosh.
#3 Can test up to 200 DNS Servers at the same time (while to the best of my knowledge NSLOOKUP can only test one).
#4 While you can use the command line feature, it also has a GUI (NSLOOKUP has GUI, I do not think so).
And more features, that are addressed on that page at grc.com
