Port Forwarding - Westell 9100

I have a Westell 9100 router and am trying to set up Port Forwarding (for port 6501).
I created a static IP address and set up a port forwarding rule to forward port 6501 to that IP address. I've changed the firewall setting to low. But it's still not working.
I've called Verizon tech support and they told me they wont help with port forwarding and I should call Westell. I've called Westell and they said they won't speak to a consumer and will only speak to someone from Verizon.
Basically, I'm between a rock and hard place.
Can anyone assist? Thanks.

make sure you leave the source port as ANY and ONLY define the destination port.
if you have a lot of trouble, try downloading the auto port forward tool @ www.simpleportforwarding.com
