Port Forwarding - cannot access

I watched the Verizon video on how to access port forwarding settings and also read many posts on here about it.

I access IP 192.168.1.1. The log in screen appears. I enter user name okay. When I get to the password entry, for each 1 character I enter in, 2 extra characters auto-populate into the field so it's not accepting my password. Frustrated, not sure what I am doing wrong. Anyone that can help? Thanks!

Nope.  The id is "admin"  or it will tell you te create an ID.

The Password after a reset is

  • Some routers will ask you to create the password
  • Some routers have a password printed on their label
  • Some routers will use the value "password"
  • some routers may use the serial number, although I never heard of this being confirmed on a reset.  For those routers that were using "password" or "password1" (a value the installers use to set), they were having their Verizon connection change this to the serial number.  Not sure if that was one time or a continuing thing.

The extra characters is a security feature. Just type in the password as you normally would and pay no attention to the amount of characters that show.

If you still can't login to the router the best bet is to reset it by sticking a small item such as a pin into the reset button on the back of it and hold it for aroudn 10 seconds then release. Let it cycle then login the same way using the default username and password to login and set everything back up.

As said the extra characters added and deleted are a security feature.

Interesting enough the latest update to the Rev I has removed this feature and even allows you to display the password you enter if you want to.

Thanks for your suggestion. I've tried doing the reset step on the back of the modem 3 times now. Still not accepting my user name and password. I am using the router SSID name and the WEP key. Is that correct?

I'm on my office laptop at home and struggling to use a program that previously worked. Our IT group advised me that Verzion and other ISPs sometimes block port 80 and that can affect accessing programs like the one I am using, that require access to an online server. So I was reading online about port forwarding and wanted to give that a try. Am I under the right thought process?

Thanks again!

The SSID and WEP key is what you use to connect to the internet, not login to the router.

TNS listed how to login to the router itself in the post above mine.
