Samsung Bluray cannot connect - DHCP Lease always shows expired

I am a FIOS customer with a Actiontec router. I recently purchased a Samsung bluray (BD-D5300-ZA), hardwired it to the router via cat5,  and it was able to connect to the internet just fine. Downloaded some firmware updates, accessed your tube, etc.

Few weeks later, I try to connect to the internet and it just will not go through. Initially I had the bluray on Auto. I switched over to manual IP configuration, gave it a IP 192.168.1.5 (subnet 255.255.255.0, DNS  71.243.0.12, Gateway: 98.110.227.1) and still no luck. I got the DNS and Gateway setting from the System Monitoring --> Router Status page. No luck connecting to the internet.

I read somewhere that if I wanted to assign static IPs I need to shrink the DHCP pool so I did that on router and set the "End IP" to be 192.168.1.200, and then created a static DHCP connection of 192.168.1.201. Update the bluray with this new IP, and still no luck. The only indication of an error that I have is that the DHCP connections page for the router admin interface, the status column for my bluray shows "Expired".

I know that the network connections are fine because I can hook up a laptop to the same cable and it will connect. Also, I know that my router did detect the new device because it showed me the bluray in the list of devices (MAC address matches so I know that it is the bluray).

Please help,

Thanks

assuming you shrunk your DHCP pool as you said, then you would set your blu-ray device to

ip  address 192 168 1 201

mask 255 255 255 0

gateway 192.168.1.1

Dns primary 192.168.1.1

you can leave the DNS secondary as 0 0 0 0 (i.e. none)

Your gateway setting is wrong for manual IP.

The gateway will be the address you use to access the modem interface (either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.100).

Thank you for the response.

Tried both, 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.100 with the same results.

Please feel free to suggest other options.

Tried with DNS = 192.168.1.1 and no luck. Someone else also suggested using google DNS 8.8.8.8 and that too did not work.

Other suggestions?

Strangely enough, after setting the primary DNS to 192.168.1.1 and waiting for a day things have started working.

In total:

Shrunk the DHCP pool to end at 192.168.1.200

Added static ip  address 192.168.1.201 in router

Configured Bluray to use static IP with

mask 255.255.255.0

gateway 192.168.1.1

Dns primary 192.168.1.1

And it works.

Thanks to all those who helped me out.
