Why does remote e-mail forget userid when told to remember

I am NOT clearing my browser cache or info.
I sign on to webmail and check "remember me" up front.
I do stuff and go away for an hour or so.
When I try to refresh my webmail screen, it tells me my session has expired even though I explicitly checked the remember me button.
Further, it now asks additional questions before restoring my session and logging in.
I have not cleared my cache or internet info.
I am only using the verizon webmail web site.
If Verizon has no further intention to honor the "remember me" button, why offer it?
Also, why am I now considered a wireless, disposable link via iPad, when I was not before?
This is annoying.
I should not need to completely re log in if I have told you to remember my credentials.
I should not be required to go through a 3rd tier of authentication each log in.
Is Verizon modeling their service after the wizards at Comcast?
Thanks.
