I believe it is quite reasonable now. Verizon and other companies have invested quite a bit in the hopes to make a profit. So perhaps in 20 years you will see il lower like the relationship between DSL and FIOS. Once something better than fiber is found. How fast is fast enough?

Residential computer history at my house.

Considering $55 used to get you 1.5/256or512, perhaps 768 over DSL if you were lucky.

I remember the day that cable modems were still one way, with uploads and requests still through dialup.

I remember the day when I paid $625 to have a dry pair provisioned to my house for SDSL because ADSL was not available due to distance issues. $99 a month for whopping 768/768 and 4 IP addresses.

I remember the day when 64kbps 2b channels on ISDN would bind and give 128kbps. And OS2 would give you access through IBM, and Netscape was new.

I remeber the day when dialup was to a BBS and at 1200baud. Then 4800, then 9600, then 14.4kbps wow then 28k. so on and so on. No Internet unless you were DOD and could type fast.

All over about a 25 year period. So perhaps when fiber becomes obsolete, which may be never. It is all relative. Perhaps pricing will stay about the same and speed will increase. Look at the DSL prices now, and only because we can go faster with other technologies.

$100 for internet?! Come on.  $100 for a cell phone?!

That's a car payment.  Too much for regular people.

I don't know where you are getting the $100/month figure from. FiOS Internet starts at $50/month for the 15/5 connection,

25/25 is $65 a month.

I don't know if it is still available, but double and triple play bundles certainly can get to $100/month, but that includes Telephone and/or Televison services as well.

The other difference between FiOS and DSL, is FiOS is impervious to line conditions. If you order 15/5, or 25/25, that is really and truly what you are going to get.

My own experience was that Direct TV+ DSL (that rarely reached the 3mbps) cost me more than the bundle of TV and Internet from FiOS, and HD was included in the deal, and I got about 6 times the Internet speed in the deal as well.

YMMV.

What kind of car are you buying that you can get a payment that low?  LOL

Verizon fios is VERY competitive when it comes to price. Its Very reasonably priced for what you get. Compare it to any other company and the price differences are minimal. Usually only a few dollars seperate all the other companies out there. I agree with the previous poster, its going to be YEARS before you see any price drop. What they do is keep the price up and just add more to it.  3 years ago it was $49 for 5/2. Now its $49-$54 (depending on the area) for 15/5. Same price just bigger speeds

Internet at this price range is growing, among all companies. As long as people pay it, the price is not going to come down.

And this doesnt even cover the TV. But the idea is the same.

Overpriced? I dont think so, but this is a matter of opinion. If you want cheap, you want dial up or dsl. But you get what you pay for.

Yes. "Residential computer history at my house". History usually references the past. I was just giving an example of what it used to be. Yes $99 WAS for 768/768 SDSL. Now look at what you get for $55, yes reasonable.

You can't always have what you want.

It costs Verizon hundreds of dollars to install the equipment at hour house and run the fiber up the street to connect to that equipment.  It also costs Verizon money for the backhaul Internet capacity.  To charge $30/month for only Internet service will mean many years just to recoup the upfront costs for connecting your service.

Here's an idea.  Verizon can charge you $30/month for Internet with a $1500 connection fee and no early termination fees.

This technology is not free.  It costs money to develop, deploy, and support.

What would they replace fiber with?  Wireless?  I shudder at the thought.  Smiley Tongue LOL

But I agree.  For the speed, FIOS Internet truly is reasonable, and for the most part, pretty dependable.

Of course there's always dialup for $ 9.95 per month, heh heh.  Just a thought.  Smiley Very Happy
