3D is a complete joke.

3D works as well on a 1950 TV and a simple cheap 3D box.  3D is just hype to sell new expensive unneeded features.  With ESPN dropping 3D and cable/Verizon provides saturated with so many channels .. 3D is completely dead.

TV manurfactures were completely spoiled in all the new expensive HD sets well because they were so much better.  The TV manufactures are looking for next big expensive option to sell TVs.  The exact same mess will happen with 4K/Ultra HD TV.

Your very first sentence indicates the invalidity of the rest of your comments.  3D tvs aren't that expensive (you can get one for under $1000 these days).  And as noted, sales are going up.  As one who has home 3D, I can verify that it ain't hype and it is fun Just the opening shots of HUGO in 3D are breathtaking!  Sorry you don't appreciate the added depth, but that's your perogative.  You probably also prefer that movies be altered/cropped (as Verizon and HBO does) as well. Probably better suited for that 1950s TV set!  :-.)

Under $1000 is still very expensive.  My new Moagovox 39" HDTV was $345.  Until 3D is added into cheap low end TVs it will never be excepted.

Also I stated expensive meaning from the consumer cost.  I never said 3D technology is expensive to manufacture.  I leven gave the example of cheap 3D box.

Yep. I predicted that a year ago.  For the content they have, it's not worth the money.  But that has nothing to do with 3D viability in other capacities, fortunately.

It most certainly has everything to do with the 3D viability in other capacities.  Who do think gets the most money for most for their channels?  With ESPN DROPPING 3D all other channels / providers will quickly follow suit.

3D is dead until it's put in as standard for  $200+ TVs.

Probably be a few years until its in the under 200 sets.  Particularly since 3d works best in larger sets.  But it is already in some under 500 sets.  More and more people are getting it, some without realizing its in the set they are buying.  At least one manufacture has decided not to push it in their advertisiing for their lower cost models.
