Use VZ chat support, tell them "bad gateway" and they should reset the "port forwards" in your setup. 5 minutes (use chat).

If you are having an issue with your Verizon service, you can use the Verizon Troubleshooter to fix and report issues with your Verizon Phone, FiOS TV, or Internet Service. You can also schedule a repair. Here is the link: http://www.verizon.com/repair

You can also find tools on the Verizon Residential Support page that may help you diagnose your issue: http://www22.verizon.com/residentialhelp

Second day with FIOS conversion from Cablevision. Bad Gateway message first time accessing DVR from PC. I saw here to contact chat support and it was fixed right away. You will be asked to run self diagnostics and note what it says next to remote DVR, so if you do this before contacting chat you can save some time. It is a port issue that must be resolved at Verizon end - there's nothing you can do on-site.

I believe the above highlighted part of your response is only partly correct. When you run Self Diagnostics, under FiOS TV Remote DVR it will say either "Listener 1 Started" or "Listener 2 Started."

If it says Listener 1 then it should not require Verizon to do anything, you can usually either just wait a while and try again, or pull the power to the DVR, reboot the router, then power up the DVR and wait a while, it will usually work reliably after that. For example, mine says Listener 1, and I have never ever had to contact Verizon support for this issue. Mine has rarely quit working, and on the one or two occasions that I got the Bad Gateway mesage just waiting or rebooting fixed the problem. And I have not had that failure in many months, probably at least 6 months.

If it says Listener 2, then yes, my understanding is that you must contact Verizon to have them remap the path from their servers to your DVR.

I do not pretend to understand the details, but apparently Verizon used two different internet transmission techniques to set up the Remote DVR feature, and depending on how your account was set up, you may experience the failure.

It would be interesting to know what the Self Diagnositcs says for the Listener before being fixed by Verizon and afterword to see if the Listener number is changed. I hope someone here that has the problem will document what they see before and after to hopefully verify what I have said above.

I, like many others, have been getting this bad gateway message also on the website with the remote DVR. The self diagnostics say Listener 1, but I'm not calling Verizon or rebooting anything right now. I will see if te problem fixes it self in a day or two or if a solution is discovered for everyone who all of a sudden are getting this message.

After I posted about Listener 1 vs. Listener 2 above, I tried the Remote DVR function and sure enough it failed with a message that the DVR was not responding. So I just quit trying. Tonight I am at our lake house using an AT&T DSL connection and I can get to the DVR just fine.

I guess my point is that, at least for me, when the service fails, it is some kind of temporary problem that goes away without me doing anything - I don't know, maybe it is network congestion, or some kind of equipment failure, but honestly, it works like 98% of the time, and when it doesn't, it seems to just fix itself given a little time.

I have no clue why my experience is different from others.....and I have no idea why Verizon can't fix the problem permanently for everybody.
