Brand new customer: How do I replace very old dvr and get new 500gb DVR?

I just got fios service. My technician, who was great, only had very old dvr boxes that were banged up. I was disappointed that I was given used equipment in horrible condition (dirty, scratches, dents, etc). . I never had that happen with other companies where I received brand new equipment. The guide isn't even 16:9 and has a very limited capacity (160gb). In addition, the DVR turns off (black screen and no sound) when we're watching shows.

How do I replace this defective box and get a new one?

Thanks

My personal experience is to go to the local store and swap the box as required. If you have one nearby, it is simple and an efficient way to get it done. No confusing computer routines or frustrating delays on the telephone.

Thanks, retireme! Unfortunately, the nearest store is an 1.5 hours or so from here. I used to live near you (EG/Warwick line) and was one of the first fios customers in RI.

Seems like my best option is to play the waiting game an wait for an email that will allow me to reserve a box.

Sorry to hear that there is no store nearby. Even if there were, the 7232 is in short supply, so it wasn't a sure thing - just an option. Plus, you never know what you will get when you ask for a truck roll on a service call. I wonder if getting a Cisco box is an option, or even if a mixture of Motorolas and Ciscos is possible within a VHO?

go to http://www.verizon.com/fiostvcentral -> login -> STB -> get more from your DVR

Also try the local stores

Thanks.

A "new to me" dvr is on the way. I called verizon again last night. The automated system recognized that my dvr was problematic without me saying a word. I talked to a CSR and he initiated a request for a replacement dvr. I doubt it will be a 500gb, but I joined the waitlist a few days ago. I'll play the waiting game and order a new dvr if the "new to me" dvr isn't a larger capacity dvr.

Chances are , even if your new DVR is not the 500GB version, that your VHO now supports external drives.  You could purchase a good quality eSATA drive and connect it to your DVR for additional capacity.  I have a 2TB eSATA drive attached to my 7216 and it now has more capacity than my 500GB 7232.
