Controlling the volume with the STB, not the TV

So I have a 5 speaker system that nobody has the codes for, and my TV outputs to it using the digital out, meaning that changing the volume on the TV doesn't change the volume on the speaker system.  I was hopeful that FIOS would have a code for the speakers, but no.  I was very excited however to find the setting inside the FIOS DVR to change the STB volume: Menu, Settings, Audio, STB volume.

My question is simple - is there any way that I can program the remote control's volume buttons to change THAT setting?

Thanks!

I just tried what bob suggested and it totally worked, then I had to change it back because I use my tv vollume, and it was really annoying because it was loud when would get static.

I would try programming the remote again with the vollume controlling the box vollume.  Instead of hitting aux or TV hit the stb instead.

this is what I did

1 Press and hold the STB key.
2 While holding down the STB key, press OK.
3 Release both keys. The Device Keys will blink twice.
4 Press 9 - 5 - 5. The STB key will blink twice.
5 Press STB. The SYB key will blink 3 times to indicate success
in programming.

MENU > SETTINGS> AUDIO > VOLUME CONTROL> VARIABLE

Here is a link for programming the remote, if need be. http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/FiOSTV/Remote+Controls/SetUp/SetUp.htm

Volume Configuration
The VOL +, VOL – and MUTE buttons always control the TV volume even
when you are in STB or DVD modes. (However, the Volume Keys will
always control the AUX device when in AUX mode.) This is the way most
people will want the remote to work. However, you can change how the
Volume Keys work.
Using AUX
Device
Some people may want to always adjust the volume using their AUX device
(typically a home theater receiver) regardless of the mode they are in:
Step Action
1 Press and hold the STB key.
2 While holding down the STB key, press OK.
3 Release both keys. The Device Keys will blink twice.
4 Press 9 - 5 - 5. The STB key will blink twice.
5 Press AUX. The AUX key will blink 3 times to indicate success
in programming.
Controlling
Volume via the
TV
To return to controlling the volume via the TV:
Step Action
1 Press and hold the STB key
2 While holding down the STB key, press OK.
3 Release both keys. The Device Keys will blink twice.
4 Press 9 - 5 - 5. The STB key will blink twice.
5 Press TV. The TV key will blink 3 times to indicate success in
programming
Controlling
Volume
through Device
Key
To control volume through the device key pressed:
Step Action
1 Press and hold the STB key.
2 While holding down the STB key, press OK
3 Release both keys. The Device Keys will blink twice
4 Press 9 - 5 - 5. The STB key will blink twice
5 Press OK. The OK key will blink 3 times to indicate success in
programming

Thanks for the effort, but I've tried both of those options and neither does what I described in my question.  Anyone else?

Ah!  Thanks for following up - I got lost in his directions earlier, since I had tried I guess the first 25 lines of it (programming the AUX keys) but not the release of the volume key to the STB control.  Anyway thanks to both of you!
