QIP-7232 (FIOS/Motorola DVR model) HDMI message displays every 15 seconds on Sharp Aquos TV

The FIOS (Motorola-branded) DVR connected via HDMI to my new Sharp Aquos TV seems to be handshaking or reconnecting every 15 seconds, resulting in a textbox in the upper-right hand corner of the TV. (Other HDMI-connected components e.g., Roku, Sony Blu-Ray player connect with no such recurring textbox message.)

Picture and audio quailty is beautiful with no loss of signal or any other artifacts. How can I resolve this? Would a newer FIOS-supported DVR obviate this probem?

What model DVR do you have?

You really shouldn't have a handshake issue regardless of the model every 15 seconds.

Make sure the video settings on the DVR in the menu are set correctly or try changing them and see if it still happens.

Might be a bad box that needs to be swapped out.

DVR is a Motorola QIP-7232. (In fact, the textbox that appears on the TV contains the string 'QIP-7232' and 'HDMI' - see below.) What DVR video menu settings might be relevant?

Yea you shouldn't be seeing hand shake issues. I have a Sharp Aquos myself. I don't have the 7232 anymore though.

Go to Menu/Settings/Video Settings/Video Format. See if it is set to the correct format. See if says 1080i, 720p, etc..

Have you tried using the hdmi cable for the box in another hdmi port on the tv? Same issue?

I'd call and have the box swapped out for a new one. The boxes hdmi port may be bad. If the new one does the same then you at least can eliminate that as the issue.

Make sure your tv's firmware is up to date as well. Might even want to reset the whole thing in the tv's settings.

I know I had handshake issues with an old firmware version, but once I reset the tv things worked fine.

Have tried all HDMI ports into the TV with the same results. Verizon service guy came in person and connected two other Motorola (and one Arris) DVRs with the same result. Finally, we tried bypassing the home theatre receiver (Pioneer VSX-40) and the problem went away, i.e., DVR --> TV with no receiver in the mix. Unfortunately, this no real solution - and the VSX-40 has *no* available firmware upgrade. Now looking for a reputable home AV company (in NE Tarrant Co area) to discern the HDMI handshaking/switching at a low level. Verizon service tech guy recommended StarPower. Thoughts?
