What is a good db signal strength range for fios?

I ran the self diagnostics and it says my signal strength is 24db. Shouldn't it be higher? What is an optimal range? How can I make it higher?

First of alll it reports SNR (SIgnal to Noise Ratio) which is a quality measurement not strength which would be in dBm or dBuV.

What you got as a reading is the typical return from th menu diagnostic and indicates that the signal is is 20 times the noise level. I don't know what the agforithm that the STB uses is, but I wouldn't give it a whole lot of credibility (keep in mind that the measurement is made on a OOB [out of band] signal not an actual channel).

Now removing my EE hat.

The signal strength for current b/g routers is horrible.  Drops down to 50% over 20 ft; even with a powered antenna I am only getting a boost of 30%.  The firmware is the worst part of the situation, with not being able to up the power on the wireless signal.

The OP is talking about the "strength" of the RF for the TV signal 0n the COAX, not the router.

Mine is at 24 as well but I get a ton of microblocking on most stations, esp syfy and NBC
