It has been over 18 months since tech support indicated that the ethernet port on the back of the STB will be turned on soon. Is there an ETA? Thanks.

AFAIK tech support gave you bogus information. The Ethernet port is not planned to be activated. The only port that will become active in a future firmware update is the eSATA port for adding up to 1 Tb of external hard disk storage. Supposed to come with version 1.9 for which there are many "guesses" as to the release date, but knowing Verizon I wouldn't count on it anytime soon.

I had understood that after ver. 1.8 was paused, it would be replaced by 1.9. A tech in New England told me today that his personal box was loaded last night with 1.8. If they're still rolling that out, 1.9 could be a while - dang.
Even though the new 7232s come with a 350gb drive, it pails in comparison to the aftermarket boxes like Moxi. They need to get 1.9 out. That said, it's no skin off VZ nose if their customers spend $600 for a Moxie when all they have to supply is the much cheaper cable card. I believe this is definitely figuring into their product marketing, albeit counter to good customer service.

Actually, the reports from a few people who have the 7232s are that they have 500 Gb drives (even though the part number would indicate 320 Gb). Probably since Motorola had already manufactured the front panels before the units were modified to the larger drive - lead times for custom manufactured parts typically are much longer than off the shelf parts like drives.

The guy I talked to was in Va., so I have now way to verify what size drive he actually has.
It's my experience that the larger the company, with few exceptions, the slower they move with products. So, I'm not holding my breath with 1.9.
One silver lining is that while we'll be stuck with the internal HD for the forseeable future, 1TB drive prices keep coming down. I hope that the ESATA port will accept at least that size.

esata is like double the speed of usb - it's definetely the preferred method for external hard drives for people concerned about performance.

Zich6 - if you follow @FiOSTV on Twitter, the VP of Product Development's account, he has said that 1.8 has been rolling out for about a month now, and they expect to have it finished within the next week. I live in MA and just got it this week, so this is likely one of the last areas. He also said that as soon as 1.8 finishes deploying they will start rolling out 1.9. He said he already has it on his STB at his house.
I would definitely expect 1.9 to start trickling out by Thanksgiving. Judging by his tweets about 1.8, they start really small, and each successive rollout area is larger than the entire previous rollout. So only a few areas may have it by Thanksgiving, but I'd expect that just about everyone will have it by Christmas.
