Where to buy a lead-acid back-up battery for Verizon Fios BBU?

OK, my battery needs replacing. I finally got it OUT. Now, I can't find a replacement unit. Radioshack, BestBuy, Lowes', etc. do NOT carry this battery. WHERE can I buy one? Anybody have any suggestions?

Oh, and how do I get the BBU to STOP beeping? Supposedly, it should have stopped when I removed the battery (if I read the explanation right), but it is still beeping. HELP? The unit is right under my bed and I'm a light sleeper -- lol!

Thanks, anybody who can help with this. BTW, I'm in Dover, Delaware, if that helps any.

hi monica,  try calling home depot's and lowes and osh.  these will be available at any home improvement store.

the model is Portalac PX12072, you don't have to get the exact model number though,  as long as it's a 12V 7.2Ah, sealed lead-acid batteries , it should fit and work.

As Hubrisnxs says, you should be able to get them at Home Depot or Lowes. But for much more information on this topic, with muliple sources mentioned, here is a link to a thread on dslreports.com: Link

Thanks, guys. But Lowes' does not carry it, nor Home Depot. At least not in Delaware! Don't know what OSH is, but figured at this point I'll just have to order on-line rather than pick up.

The batteries are available from a number of sources. They are often available on eBay (search for 12V SLA battery), and they can be ordered by Internet from several sources such as www.digikey.com. As long as it is 12V and somewhere near 7AH, and has the right type/size connectors on it WILL work. There are two sizes of connectors, .250 and .187, just make sure you get the right size (look at the old battery).

In most decent sized towns and cities, there is a battery specialty supplies (like Batteries Plus). Check the yellow pages, and they are likely to have a battery that will work fit and work properly. www.batteriesplus.com has a store locator, and according to the web site, most location will stock the 12V/7AH SLA battery.

Good luck.

I have had to replace the battery twice.  Both times, I got the replacement battery at my local Radio Shack here in northern NJ.

I just ordered one on-line from ASIHOME.COM so I have it on hand.  It was cheaper than Radio Shack and shipping was very fast.

The unit will NOT stop beeping until the battery is replaced.

Second post in FAQ.

http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Frequently-Asked-Questions/I-need-to-replace-the-battery-back-up-BBU-Wh...

I have found http://www.batteriesplus.com/ to be first rate. Even when replacing the APC batteries that cost almost double.

I have had the same battery since Fios was installed in 2005. If anyone is purchasing the batteries and replacing them twice, I would stay there is a serious problem, or you are having many power interruptions.

Then again I have had my FIOS power supply pluged into a low cost 500va UPS. It carries my network connection long enough for me to power down my PC that is also on its own UPS. The BBU only carries the phone service, which is useless with VOIP or if you are in the middle of a VPN connection to the office.

funny you mentioned this b/c my FIOS box is also beeping, indicating that I need to replace the backup battery.  what is not funny though, is that I've had the box for just under 12 months.

shouldn't VZ replace it?

It should not have gone bad in under a years time. Just like a UPS it should last about 3 years or more, unless it is constantly deep cycling because of power interuptions. So yes I would call support and complain if your service has been active for under a year.
