Can a multi room DVR work in conjunction with a 2nd standard DVR instead of a set top box? I want to have the 2 separate tuners on the DVR so that I can record additional shows and pause live TV but I would also like it to be able to view the recordings from the multi-room DVR. Or is the only combination a multi-room DVR and HD Set Top Box?

That would depend on which version of the IMG you have. If you have the IMG 1.8, the answer is currently no. But when IMG 1.9 rolls out then DVR to DVR is supposed to be available.

I can confirm that DVR and DVR multi room is working with IMG 1.9.
We had two Cisco 435 HDC DVR's running IMG 1.9 installed yesterday and are able to watch recordings from either box. The only "issue" I have noticed when watching something recorded with the DVR in the other room is the 30 second skip doesn't work (fast forward does).
