Beware of Door to Door Verizon sales people wanting to upgrade your service!

Has anyone else had a verizon sales person come to the door (I am in Garland Texas) and out and out lie about an upgrade to service? I did! I have internet only, that is all I want. This guy tells me I can 150/65 service for the same price I am paying for 75/25 service. So I said ok (I should have smelled a rat right then) then I find out he ordered 75/25 + Phone + internet  (at $200 a month) and told me I would be getting it within a week. When I got the email I found out he had bold face LIED about it. The Verizon home office told me 150 is not available in this area!

Beware of sales people wearing Shirts with the verizon logo.

I am very angry with Verizon for putting someone in the neighborhood who would lie so completely. I will be posting everywhere I can so no one else gets fooled! It is a good thing I verifyed the order right after he placed it.

I received a call from Verizon Last night informing me that I can save money by upgrading to faster internet for only $10 more a month.  I asked how giving VZ $10 more saves me money.  The caller didn't know how to answer, it must have been his first day on the job.  He put me on hold and never came back.

I had a similiar experience.  Verizon verbally offered me a  low rate on FIOS and even installed the equipment  in my house.  Overnight the rate changed dramatically (upwards of course) and they refused to honor the original quote, even though the Verizon technician heard the figure the salesperson gave me.  I told them to turn back on my copper line and they dragged their feet for over a week until I had to escalate the issue in order to get my phone turned back on.

timmytea,

Your story reminds me of a saying I hear all the time from local news commentators reporting on scam artists:  "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."  The same price for upgrading your Internet service to a superfast speed?

I have never had a Verizon sales rep come to my door before.  A couple of times, I have seen a sales rep in my housing complex with a tent set up on the lawn but I don't pay attention to that anymore.  I'm satisfied with my service and I will keep everything the same until it's time to renew my contract.  I would like to offer some advice that has helped me when it comes to answering the door.  Whenever someone is ringing the doorbell, I peek out the window to see who it is first.  If it's my building super, someone I am expecting like a guest or a contractor who has to fix something, or a neighbor that I happen to know, then I'll open the door.  But if it's a total stranger or someone who appears to be selling something, then I don't answer.  I've had some strange people stop by over the years and when it comes to that, you really don't know who you are dealing with.

I don't know if that sales rep had his information wrong or was just saying anything to make his sales quota.  Who knows...At least you found out pretty quickly what this was all about, i.e. anything to make an extra buck.

My only dealings with Verizon are on line or by phone.

So you may want to just not answer the door if you have another sales rep like that in the future.  Or if you do answer the door and get an idea of what this person wants, you can cut this person off by saying "I'm not interested" and then close the door.

I think you will be much better off by not answering the door and/or saying "I'm not interested" across the board.  I prefer to just not answer because I think that's the simplest.  We all have busy lives and who really has time for this?  I have definitely learned over the years that sometimes it's what we *don't* say by *not* responding that says the most.
