Id like to administrators at Verizon to answer my question. Why in 2012 is it taking sooooo long to have Fios installed inj the greater northeast. Comon guys its 2012 and its been avaliable for years now. Why are we so far behind. Thll the politations that are in bed with comcast to kiss you butt lets get the job done. Its a shame everyone around us has it.

I agree. I live in Elizabeth, NJ and where I currently live, FIOS isn't available. Across town where my grandmother lives though, FIOS is available. But, in the new apartment I'm moving to, in the same zip code as my grandmother, and I'm not even a 1/4 mile away from her, FIOS isn't available. I really don't want to have to deal with Cablevision and Directv isn't an option. So I would like to know why they're so slow as well.

FIOS is a great service if you have it, but if you don't you probably won't ever get it.  From what I've read on these forums it seems that Verizon has given up on new FIOS installtions because it is just too expensive to lay the cable.  Instead they appear to be focusing on 4G LTE as the way to provide high-speed bandwidth.

It's not at all celar to me that this approach will work, but oh well.

Isn't the 4G LTE from Verizon Wireless?  I believe it is and remember that Verizon Wireless is an entity which is separate from Verizon Communications.  Fios is landline service from Verizon Communications.

I think the chatter we heard coming from Verizon types said they were "slowing" expansion of the system in favor of increasing "density" on the present system.   Meaning ... it's expensive to build during a time when a lot of people were scaling back services and not expanding them.  We have heard of people getting new FiOS service here on the forums, just not as at a rapid pace as it initially appeared the rollout was occuring.

It's been known for some time now that the FIOS expansion is coming to an end:

I suspect that VZ is pioneering an effort to evolve from a more traditional "cable TV" provider, to a streaming provider. I suspect VZ sees that streaming will be the future evolution of entertainment options. I have seen reports elsewhere that speak of VZ wanting to stream entertainment to the 85% of the country they cannot get to with fiber optics. Their recent deals to gain bandwidth from other telcos (I think it was LTE), with Coinstar and Redbox, speak to an expansion into that territory. So look for some evolutionary changes to the way TV entertainment is provided to something more akin to the ROKU/HULU/Netflix type experience.

verizon said at least a year or two ago it was slowing/stopping its footprint so if you do not have it now, the chances are very small you may get it. yes even if 500 ft down the road has it.

maybe you'll be a luck one though, good luck
