building a website

I have Verizon DSL, and I'm interested in building a website.  Using Microsoft Word, I have written about 33 articles, which are stored in a folder in my Documents.  I basically want to transfer these articles to my proposed website.  The average length is about 3 pages per article, but I have a couple that are about 7 pages long, and one that is 16 pages long.  I doubt that the free Verizon website would accommodate all these pages?  I don't mind paying a monthly fee if necessary, but one of my primary concerns is that I can hopefully have these articles appear on the website with little or no change as they appear in my Documents (or as they appear when I pull them up on Microsoft Word).  In other words, I'm hoping to have the same formatting of the margins (all my articles were written with wide margins) and the same words being made bold or italicized, and hopefully the "boxed" items being accommodated (in a couple of the articles I placed certain discussions within a box). (I used Times New Roman, which I also will show up after the articles are transferred.)

#1 In MS Word, go to File -> Save As.

#2 Make sure to save it as a web page.

Two examples *.htm and *.html

#3 Read the info at

http://www2.verizon.net/myaccount/manage/sitebuilder/ftp_info.asp

#4 Go to the Site builder home page, and agree to the Terms (as need be).

#5 Then you may upload using a FTP client on your computer (as need be, download and install one).

#6 If all of the files are smaller than 10 MB, free.

Otherwise, it cost more money.

Max limit is 510 MB - from source http://www22.verizon.com/residentialhelp/highspeed/account+tools/web+tools/questionsone/85805.htm

It is worth noting that you don't actually need an FTP client to upload files. You can do so through Site Builder or using Windows Explorer with ftp://mysite.verizon.net in the explorer bar. - This allows you to manage the files on the server the same way you do files on your pc.

Hi, I tried to access your link: http://www2.verizon.net/myaccount/manage/sitebuilder/ftp_info.asp and I get 500 Internal Server Error.

I have a site and haven't accessed it in a long time. Now I can't find how to access it to change the contents.

Can anyone help?

Verizon discontinued FTP access in August, 2011. You should have received this email from them on or around 7/22/11:

Dear Verizon Internet User:

As part of our ongoing enhancements to the online customer experience, Verizon continues to ensure security for our Internet customers.  As a result of this ongoing effort, Verizon Online is making modifications to the Internet access provided to you.  These modifications will occur on August 21, 2011.  For security reasons, Verizon will no longer allow users to FTP their HTML files to the personal web site Verizon offers.

Verizon recommends that current FTP users download their files prior to August 21, 2011 to prevent any data loss.

If you still wish to have a Verizon website, please go to our site builder tool available with Personal Webspace which can be found under My Services in My Verizon at:

http://my.verizon.com/central/vzc.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pws_manageWebSpace#wlp_pws_manageWebS...

Remember, after August 21, 2011, you will not be able to use FTP for uploading your files.

Thanks for being a valued Verizon Online customer. We encourage you to act now to protect your private information.

Sincerely,

Verizon Online
