Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this VERIZON posted message? I thought I was going crazy

If there is a significant outage in your area, Verizon will provide an automated message that you can listen to by calling 1-800-VERIZON.

I can't see anything wrong with it. Unless of course, every calling method at your disposal is not working?
