I am helping a friend with his computer. It seems to drop the connection constantly. You can visit a webpage and it works, then click a link and it doesn't work, this happens constantly. He has a westall 6100 router. We reset the router (pushed the small round button) and now we don't get the green internet light. When I visit 192.168.1.1, it just keeps showing the page to enter user info (username, passwords, etc). What should go here? Is this he verizon username and password?
Thanks!

Try pressing & holding for 15 seconds the reset button on the modem (near on/off switch). Release it and it will go back to factory settings (so if you have any custom settings they will be overwritten)
OR if you see a message that you have exceeded the allowed login attempts you have to wait a few hours to try again
If none of this helps you may need a new router - (the wireless capable Westell 7500 was a nice free upgrade when I was in a similar situation)
You may need to call verizon (but today may be tough to get through with the email issues). and they can try to login remotely ... When I had mine they could not login either and the new modem was sent to me very quickly

No that is not his verizon credentials unless they were changed. the login should be (by default) admin/password

BTW it would be a very good idea to change the password for security reasons.

Jose,
Yes, I can use admin/password to get access to the modem but when I go to the modem page and try to click on any of the links, it constantly redirects me to the User Settings page. No matter what I put, I then click apply and get redirected back here. I click on any of the links and it takes me here:

The light for the internet never comes on and we can't connect. Just seemed to be in a loop on this page.
Thanks!

Sorry RubyList, the modem is forcing you to set a new password (for security). It has be quite a while since I had that modem. If you set a new oassword per the linked dialog you should be able to access all options

Jose,
We tried to set a new one but when we hit 'accept' it just brings us back to the same page. Hitting any of the tabs brings us to the page as well.
Thanks!

Jose,
Thanks for the help. I actually had a newer model Westall 6100 here at home. Once I swapped that for his older one, things worked great.
Thanks again!
