How do I get the installation software so I can install it on a second copy of my operating system?

My original operating system isn't working well. I can only log onto the Internet in safe mode.

So I installed a second copy of the operating system on my PC, but I can't get it to connect to the Internet via my DSL connection.  I tried using my original Verizon installation CD, but that was for a Windows Millenium operating system. My current operating system is Windows XP, and it won't work with the original installation CD.

Where can I get a copy of the Verizon installation CD, for Windows XP? Is a download available?

Do I have to call Premium Tech Support and shell out the bucks to get that CD?

On Windows XP, networking and Ethernet are pretty plug and play as long as the O/S distribution CD has drivers

for the ethernet adapter on your PC. Verizon really doesn't care what computer you use, or how many of them.

One of the things to check is to go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager make sure

your ethernet adapter is actually running. Click on the network adapter, and right click and select properties

for the Ethernet Adapter to see if it working properly.

If it isn't you probably have to re-install the driver.

The other possiblity is somehow your TCP/IP settings have been hosed.

Go to ControlPanel>Network Connections>Local Area Connection>Internet Protocol, select, right click and select properties

The Get IP address automatically, and octain DNS Server Addresses automatically should both be enabled. If they are not, set them, and reboot.

How are you trying to connect to the modem? If it's via USB, just let us know what modem you have so we can try to find some drivers for you. If you're using the Ethernet cable, just plug it in and go. No need for software unless you're activating service.

I am connecting via Ethernet.  When I turn on my Westell 6100 modem, I see 4 lights go green (Power, Ethernet, DSL, and Internet).  The USB light is off.  But when I start up Firefox or Internet Explorer, and try to go to any web page, like www.google.com, the browser just shows an error page. I can't access any web site.  Is there something else I have to do to be able to connect to the Internet?  It's hard to believe that as soon as I install a new operating system, I just have to turn on the DSL modem and I will connect to it.  There must be some other software that has to be installed into that new operating system so that I can access the Internet.  Or maybe I have to activate my Verizon account for this new copy of the operating system?  Or maybe set up a Network Connection from the Control Panel?

Well, if the Internet light is showing up green on the modem, you are connected up without a problem as far as the "connection' is concerned. There could be a few problems that are causing issues then. As this is a new Operating System install, we have seen some issues with the drivers that come pre-installed for the computers for the Ethernet NIC. We've found around here that if you update the drivers for the NIC from the chip maker, not the computer manufacturer it does often solve the hanging issues you're seeing. Also, you may just need to install the drivers for your Ethernet NIC which is probably the case 🙂

This could also be a problem of a network walled garden. If you visit http://192.168.1.1/ , does the modem show an IP address that is not, for example a 10.*.*.* IP address that it is holding and does it confirm a connection? Also, does the modem show your Verizon Username as being the user it is logging in as?

If you need to log into the Westell, try one of the following user/pass combinations

admin/password

admin/password1

admin/admin

admin/admin1

admin/verizon

Your Verizon Username and Password

It worked! There was no network adapter at all, so I got the other CD with the drivers on them, and installed the correct driver for my Ethernet card, and now I can access the Internet.  Thanks everyone for your help!
