My 3.0 Mbps plan is currently only giving me 180 kBYTE/s download speeds, which is only 1.5 Mbps. It's been like this since day one, which was about 3 years ago. I would switch to cable, but I had that before and it was even worse. I've run multiple speed tests and 1.5 Mbps is definitely the hard cap. It NEVER goes above that. Now, I understand that it's advertised as "up to 3.0 Mbps," but the hard cap makes me somewhat suspicious. I know not to expect the full 3.0 Mbps, but I still expect something better than this. Anyone else have such a problem? I've tried contacting customer service multiple times. Either I didn't get a response or they said everything was fine, with total disregard to what I was trying to explain to them.
I've tried running my computer through my router and directly through the modem. Same result.

#1 What is the brand and model of your router?
#2 What is the brand and model of your modem?
#3 What is the brand and model of your NIC you are using to connect to this router?
#4 What software firewall is on your computer?

Don't worry its not ur pc or modems fault. I had same problem. I tried online chats to phone calls. But thenn i tried an e mail and it got through to thier thick skulls that my speed was being capped. I probably know more about the internet than they do. So they fixed at and im getting 2.89mbps. So just try to take thier crap from thier Indian customer service and YOU TELL THEM whats wrong. It's like doctors these days lol, you have to tell them whats wrong in order for them to fix it. Well good luck, hope this helped.

yoda, thanks for the input. this is definitely good to know.
out of curiosity, what exactly was the problem and how did they fix it? did they need to come out to your place and fix the physical connection? or was it just something that they could fix from their end?
thanks again.

Although my modem status 'claims' a speed of 3072K down 864K up, I've been having severe slowdowns in speed from around 4p - 1am or so every day for the past 4-6weeks. I have done every tip of troubleshooting I can find and nothing helps. Speeds immediately pop back to the normal 2.8M download range outside of those hours. Upload speeds are always normal 768K+
Thus, I've come to my own theory that Verizon is purposely capping speeds during those timeframes every day to 1.5Mb down. There is simply no other explanation. All evidence I can find in addition to all the complaints of others during those hours, point to this. Still, none at Verizon support will admit it.
I've been a Verizon DSL customer for nearly 10 years but, perhaps it is time to change to cable. Upload speeds will suck, but perhaps I can watch a simple 2minute Youtube video without waiting 4 minutes for it to download. Grrr...

I only wish I were getting 1.5!!! Mine is capped at 768... the liars didn't tell me that all of the equipment in my area is old. I can't get anything better than that and unfortunately entered into a contract with DirectTV based on the fact that they told me I would get 3.0!! Now nobody will even call me back!! I'm calling the Attorney General's office on Monday to file a complaint. Verizon will let me change but DirectTV won't let me out of my contract. This was a bundle deal and I think if one party falsely advertises the service that is available in your area... the whole thing should be null and void!!

I have an exact same problem.
My internet speed always drop to 1.5Mbs from 2.9Mbs.
So when speed has dropped, I have to reset (reboot) my modem(Westell 6100F) and
a Router (Linksys) in order to bring Max speed back to 2.9Mbs.
I have no idea what I have to solve this problem beside of rebooting modem and router.
I used different modem, but the problem doesn't cured. So I guess this must be problem with
Verizon side.

#1Are you using the White and Blue Firmware on the Westell?
#2 If wireless in the Linksys is turned on, do have some sort of wireless security set (WEP / WPA ) ?
