Question about configuring Westell 7500 wireless router with media server

I have a Westell 7500 wireless router and I just recently purchased HP media server and I am trying to set it up for remote access.  I see the server and when I look at the details it says UPnP is not enabled.  How do I enable UPnP on this router?

Re: Question about configuring Westell 7500 wireless router with media server

#1 Rolls Eyes.

#2 Do you know what ports this program uses?

#3 I think that one of them is port 80.

#4 Why use UPnP? You can forward "manually" and it is not that hard..

#5 Check the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and DNS Servers on your computer.

This means for example if on XP...

a) Go to Start -> Run.

b) Type in cmd and press enter.

c) In the Window, called the command prompt, type in ipconfig /all and press enter.

#6 Then compare the IP Address on your computer to the IP Address on http://whatismyip.com/

#7 If an IP Address on your computer is the same as that IP Address on that site, then UPnP is unless - because you are not NATTED.

#8 If NATTED, go to the default gateway listed and log-in as need be in the router.

#9 In the router go to Advanced -> IP Address Distribution.

#10 What is the DHCP Range of the router?

#11 If you have at least two computers behind the router, you should setup a Static IP on your computer.

#12 In the router, there may be Firewall Settings or Security.

a) If Firewall Settings, see these directions:

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Actiontec/MI-424-WRv2/Apache.htm

b) If Security, see these directions:

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Actiontec/MI-424-WR/Apache.htm

#13 If you do not have at least two computers behind the router, most likely you do not have to set a static IP. All you have to do, is forward to your computer.

#14 What software firewall is on your computer?
