I've been having trouble with my DSL high-speed Internet connection dropping frequently. I decided to order a new DSL modem & Verizon sent me a Westell 6100G, a slightly different model from my old Westell 6100. Can I just "plug and play," or is there a specific procedure I need to follow to replace the old Westell with the new one? No instructions came with the new modem.

The new modem won't necesarilly be plug-and-play. It's going to need some small configuring by hand, which takes a few minutes, unless you want to run through the Verizon activation wizard again which is completely unneeded. Before we start messing around with the new modem, follow the instructions dslr posted above, as your new modem will probably see the same issues since disconnects are usually associated with line trouble.
