Transceiver Stats Show What?

Hi All,

I've been experiencing lousy DSL connection for the last 3 weeks and Verizon hasn't managed to fix anything. Line tests all show normal, modem lights don't go red even when connection is lost. To regain connection I either disconnect and reconnect my connection at 192.168.1.1 or reboot the modem.

In researching this issue I see a number of other people having the same problem. Many are asked to post their transceiver stats and I thought I'd do that first off. Might someone be able to interpret these for me?

Transceiver Revision:

7.2.3.0

Vendor ID Code:

4

Line Mode:

G.DMT Mode

Data Path:

Interleaved

Transceiver Information     Downstream Path     Upstream Path

DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec)                  3360                            832

Margin (dB)                                       15.0                             10.0

Line Attenuation (dB)                      47.5                             30.0

Transmit Power (dBm)                  11.8                             11.9

How do I know if it's a modem issue requiring a new modem? Any advice on this is appreciated!

Thanks.

Did you try connecting your modem to the NID?

If not, please do that - and recheck those stats.

If you do not what a NID is, see http://www.dslreports.com/faq/1317

No, I didn't connect to the NID, which I realize would bypass my in-home wiring and test what's coming to my home (something Verizon repeatedly tells me is fine). Plus, how do I physically go about connecting the modem, in my upstairs office, to the NID located on the back of the house? Can interior wiring just suddenly go bad without also showing up in some type of phone issue?

If you have 3mb/768kb service, your transceiver stats are well within the normal limits. They

'synch' speed is slight higher than the 'useable' speed, but your transceiver stats say you currently have at least a 3mbps downlink and at least a 768kbps uplink.

The problem may be upstream of the DSL link.

What ever the problem is, it either isn't with the DSL connection, or it isn't happening at the time you are getting the transceiver stats.

You might also check the log on the modem/router and see if it shows anything interesting

JMW,

Thanks for that info. Yes, I do have the 3mb download plan so I suppose it's back to the phone to contact Verizon about the dropped connections and possible solutions.
