Ok, in that case...

If you have the manual / user's guide for this modem:

#1 With / in the PPPoE client on your computer, disconnect from the net.

#2 Reset the modem combo to the defaults. This is usually done with most routers, by pressing the reset switch and unplugging and replugging in the power supply.

#3 After it has been reset, with your web browser go to 192.168.1.1

#4 Type in the user name and password for the modem combo.

#5 Setup the modem combo to handle the public IP using the user name and password that you use for PPPoE.

As I have said several times, I cannot connect to 192.168.1.1. Every time I try, I get a timeout error. And yes, I have tried resetting the modem/router prior to attempting to connect.

Hmm, I am just wondering..

Are you using a dial-up connection while using broadband?

The reason that I ask, is because quick quote from

http://www.wurd.com/instcon_misc_dial_script.php

Windows will always use the dial up as the default connection, thereby slowing down your surfing when using dial up and broadband (cable or DSL) together.

Ok.

#1These are the only possbile things to what is going on:

a) The modem is a modem combo, but it is in bridge mode.

b) A dial-up connection is present and your data is only going over the dial-up link/connection, even while you are on broadband.

c) Because your computer is handling the PPPoE connection, the router acts like it is not even there (even through it is).

d) OR last but not least: Your modem is not a modem combo. It is just a dumb modem.

#2 If it is a modem combo in bridge mode OR it is not a modem combo: You could get your own RJ-45 WAN port router, and then configure the RJ-45 WAN port router to handle the public IP.

An example of a RJ-45 WAN port router, is the Linksys WRT54G.

I specified this is a Westell VersaLink  327W. Wouldn't you know what that is?

Anyhow, this is just to much bother and we just keep going around in circles.

I thank you for your time, but this really isn't that important to me, so I give up.
