how good is the dsl? i have quite a few wireless stuff to connect. also is there a way to just rent the modem and not buy it from them? i will get into more detail if its needed.
Most of the time the modem is included with the service. There shouldn't be a need to rent or buy the modem. DSL modems are quite inexpensive, and if you already have your own router, that makes things much less expensive.
The service will typically be as good as the infrastructure is in your area. Many locations tend to max out at around 3Mbps, although if you are coming out of a central office or a newer remote terminal, you may be able to score something up to 7.1Mbps or up to 15Mbps (COs). If you're also in an area with few DSL users, congestion shouldn't be an issue, although many of us have started coming across congestion in the past couple of years that has not been resolved. Additionally, if you're in an area with newer copper infrastructure, you should be in better shape with DSL than an area where the copper is old, and probably neglected.
Ultimately, you won't know how good the service will work until you give it a try, unless you know what speeds you're going to get and know how much your home demands. If you currently use a Cable ISP, keep them on site and order DSL. Move all of your traffic over to the DSL and see how the connection handles the load. If it's inadequite, you can always cancel the DSL within 30 days without penalty, and return back to your previous ISP.
