No it is not. Each DSL modem requires either the other modem to be switched off when it is going to be in operation, or you need a separate copper loop from Verizon for each modem. If all you need to do is share a DSL connection so that other PCs can get on, use a router with Ethernet or Wireless (WPA2-AES Security) and connect them that way.

The box that Verizon provides to you when you set up DSL is sometimes called a "DSL Modem", but it combines several functions.  These functions always include access to the internet by way of a DSL link over your phone line. 

The DSL modem  usually includes router functions for ethernet connected computers and devices.  This enables them to function together as a local network, as well as access the internet at the same time.  Some VZ provided boxes only have one ethernet jack, others have four.

Most offten, the DSM modem also includes a wireless access point functions.  This enables wireless computers and devices to access either  the internet or the local network.  It can be advisable to set up security when you enable this function, and this means you have to set up your wireless computers and devices accordingly. 

The first step is to find out exactly which functions the box you got from Verizon supports.  Only then should you consider adding more boxes, if necessary.

furphy2,

Is there a particular reason you would WANT to connect two modems?  I personally have the modem connected to the phone line, then a wireless router connected to the LAN port of the modem, then a 1000B-T switch connected to the router for all of my wired devices.  What are your unique requirements that would drive you to needing two modems?
