Was your area sold to Frontier by any chance back and switched over to them in June/July? Is the issue with high pings and slow speeds taking place all the time or is it only occurring during the evening hours?

ya it switched over from verizon sometime around then. but we got the service after it switched to frontier, we never had it when it was on verizon. and it's uasually random high ping. like right now it's good ( since i got verizon, this is considered "good", on any other thing, like comcast, would be considered bad)

and yesterday at the same time, or at least around this time, it was 800+.

and BTW: it may say 250 miles, but they've changed my IP a couple times and it keeps moving me around, i'm really less than 100 miles from there.

Frontier has been having some known congestion issues since the Changeover. A lot of these issues started around Thanksgiving time. Word has it right now that they are working on building up the backbones (bringing in Multiple Gigabit Fiber lines) to support the increased load on their network, as well as increasing the amount of capacity the former Verizon areas have going to them to ease up on the congestion. There's discussions over on the DSLReports Frontier forum if you're interested in reading those.

Anyhow, that ping test is still really bad. Latency should be lower than that and there should be no more than 2ms jitter on the line at any given time. There should also not be any packet loss. Once Frontier boosts bandwidth, the jitter should lessen substantially.
