I get a poor signal on my laptop upstairs, I have a M1424WR router downstairs connected wirelessly to a PC. I want to connect wired to the laptop. I have already ran cat5 cable to the lap top. How do I configure the lap top?

You should be able to simply plug the cable into the laptop and then get on line. Have you tried that? You will want to disable the wireless.
