I am right there with you ........ Unfortunately in the very rural areas sometimes our internet is tied to our landlines. No landline no internet. Unless you want to use the overpriced CRAP from places like hughesnet. Been there and NEVER going back. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE service..... You couldn't PAY ME to go back to it.

So in the meantime I guess all I can do is just continue to let my answering machine screen out these annoying phone calls.

If you have not figured it out:

CALL BLOCK for residential service is available only if you add to your service,

1  Verizon DIGITAL VOICE   or

2  Call features, CALL BLOCK

otherwise you can not block calls. Less than 1% of the time the problem may be an  R.C. Mac   programming error. Using Verizon buzz words will often get you more cooperation.

Don't waste time looking at your phone bill. It is seldom easy to figure out if you have one of the above services. Call VERIZON business office & ask.

Yes, Verizon can be outragously difficult to deal with. Add into the mix all the contractors they hire to do things like run this website & it gets worse. The contractors are NOT technicians or trouble shooters. They just give the generic answers provided by VERIZON.

If you were told Call Block no longer available, it is likely because of the area you moved to. NOT because VZ no longer provides the service. All software additions made to each line are 100% profit. VZ never passes up the chance to charge more money.

The area you moved to may not have enough fiber, adequate copper, multiplexers, central office capacity, upgraded ESS systems, etc. Thus limiting the services they can sell. Also, Verizon is regulated by The FCC [Federal Communications Commission], The SCC [State Communications Commission] & local jurisdictions. Often any or all of them will refuse to allow VZ to provide one or more services. Example: Washington D.C. refused to allow Caller ID or Call Block well into the year 2000+.

The truth of the matter is that Call Block DOES NOT WORK because VERIZON DOESN'T WANT IT TO.

The thing is that NONE of the phone companies want you to be able to block the calls from these telemarketers who use robodialers and caller id spoofing because the phone companies MAKE MONEY ON THESE CALLS.  The phone companies have absolutely no incentive, or interest, in blocking these calls because it would cut off some of their biggest customers - the companies that are calling thousands of people daily and the phone companies would lose all that money. 

The only solution is to ditch your landline and tell the phone company why you're doing it.  And, don't switch to a cellphone owned by the same company (I.e. Verizon Wireless if you nave Verizon) because then the phone company will care even less about what you have to say because they'll still be making money off of you.

As long as the phone companies are making money off of you, they don't care if it's landline or cellphone.  Furthermore, once everyone is off the landlines, the junk calls will just move to the cellphones.  Unless the phone companies are told in NO UNCERTAINT TERMS that the consumers won't stand for it, they'll continue to allow the junk callers to make their calls to you and will not allow you to stop or block them.  

The reason the junk callers are able to make the calls in the first place, and hide behind fake caller id is because the phone companies allow them to.  The phone companies like Verizon are silent partners with these junk callers.
