Dear Verizon West Virginia, Please Stop from spam calls across the country

Dear Verizon West Virginia,

Over the past year, I have been swamped by calls from {edited for privacy}. Sometimes, I get 6-7 per day. Investigating this number online, I have found multiple phone number identification/complaint sites that have page after page of complaints about this phone number. It originates in West Union, WV and the number has taken the WV Dept. of Highways ID. If you ever get someone to respond to you once they call (they usually just hang up when you say hello), they may say they want you to answer 3 or 4 survey questions. And, if you answer that you don't want to answer their survey, they get nasty.  (I live in Georgia, why would the WV Dept. of Highways be calling me to do a survey?????) One person even indicated they got the name of "Buddy {edited for privacy}" from the caller. Some indicate that it may be a political call, but they often hang up when you say "hello." But from my experience, you only hear breathing on the other end and then they hang up. Just weird.

The person calling on this number often calls several times a day and many times late at night, even after 11 p.m., which is illegal. Complaining on the National Do Not Call Registry doesn't help since the federal government does very little to address consumer complaints. Many people  who have left comments on the complaint sites indicate they have already complained on the federal gov't's site.

One complaint  on one of the site indicates:

"Caller Type: Telemarketer
Phone Number Report: They can't take no for an answer, they have called 3 more times after I asked them to stop---- JERKS "

I am writing to you on your blog to make you aware of this and it is our last chance at getting anything resolved on this issue. Please help! I beg you. I work during the day and take care of my elderly father on evenings and weekends. I don't have time to answer phone calls from spammers or scammers.

According to www.whycallme.com, it indicates:

"The number is currently on switch number WUNNWVEDRS1 (switch is a technical specification for phone hobbyists) .

Around 25% of people reported it as 'Unknown'

You are the 20th person to search for it here. There has been a total of 8 comments left about the number.
Read more at {edited for privacy}

It is also mentioned on these other sites:

{edited for privacy}

There are many other sites with dozens of complaints. These are just a few, and I'm sure you get the picture.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

kmo727

Hello kmo727,

While a Verizon employee may occasionally post here, this community is meant mainly for peer-to-peer support. If you need to talk to a Verizon representative, you should contact customer service directly.

Don't know what phone service you have, but the easiest thing to do for one number is to block it. Tech support can refer you to the unlawful call center. I would say just block the number.

What the OP is likely experiencing is caller ID spoofing, where bogus caller ID is sent with the call.  I suspect if the OP dialed the number displayed back they would get a "number is no longer in service" recording.  Telemarketers do this all of the time, just like they ignore the Do-Not-Call list.

Some people are using Nomorobo.com to stop such calls.  This service can be used with Verizon digital voice (since simultaneous ring is required).

I suspect spoofing for this one. Also be aware that the local loop carrier for West Virginia is primarily Frontier now. Verizon sold their West Virginian markets off a few years ago.
