Did not get new battery during initial installation

I had FIOS installed about a month ago when we moved into an apartment that previously had the service.  There was an existing battery backup, but the installer did not give me a fresh battery.  I understand that replacement of the battery is my responsibility, and I'm fine with that, but shouldn't I start with a new one?

Verizon stopped providing batteries to new customers.  Unfortunately they aren't very good at communicating that change to customers. You can read a news article on it at the following link.
